Patio season is short in Winnipeg, so it’s important to make the most of it. Here is our curated list of the tip best patios in the city of Winnipeg, handpicked by our team! Check them out for drinks and dinner before the summer ends. Here they are, in no particular order:
1. Block & Blade Restaurant and Bar
50 Sage Creek Blvd
Walking distance from most of Sage Creek and Island Lakes, Block & Blade is locally owned and operated, drawing on fresh ingredients for their casual dining menu. Their patio is spacious and well lit, so you can relax with a cocktail well past sunset.
Speaking of cocktails, their drink menu has something for everything with plenty of beer on tap, custom cocktails and martinis, all the classic cocktails, and a signature shooter menu. We recommend the Smoke Show or Euphoria martini, or one of their ‘Blocktails’, drinks created by their own bartenders.
If you’re not sure what to order from their diverse menu, you can’t go wrong with their New York Steak or Block Burger.
2. Cibo Waterfront Cafe
339 Waterfront Dr
This gem is in a repurposed industrial building on the bank of the Historic Red River. With great local dishes and views of the waterfront, it offers a uniquely Winnipeg dining experience.
Their menu offers something for every craving, but we suggest starting with the bruschetta and going with their carbonara for dinner. As for drinks, their Elderflower Martini or signature Cibo Royale are must-try menu items.
3. The Forks Common
1 Forks Market Road
The Common at the Forks offers 20 beers and 20 wines carefully curated by pros to provide a varied, quality selection. Their outdoor bar allows you to sit on their set tables, the steps overlooking the river, or the center plaza where buskers entertain and artisans sell their pieces. The quintessential Winnipeg experience endures here with great beer, great local food, and great atmosphere.
4. The Great Canadian Brewhouse
1715 Kenaston Blvd
This Canadian-themed sports bar & grill has an extensive menu of appetizers, entrees, drinks and amazing specials every night of the week. Their covered wood patio has room for large weekend crowds and overlooks a scenic landscaped pond, the perfect spot to try one of their many domestic and import beers, and one of their standard pub food menu items.
5. Gusto North Rooftop
242 Hargrave St
This rooftop patio situated right in True North Square offers fantastic views of downtown Winnipeg in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. They have a great selection of unique pizzas, all cooked in their coal fired oven. The Calabrese is particularly notable, with boar sausage, fig jam, pepperoncini, and arugula. If you just want some appetizers to enjoy with your drinks, their standard Antipasto can be ordered in sizes created for groups of two and four. Ask the server what kind of craft cocktails the bar has on offer, or check out something from their wine list.
6. The Beer Can
1 Granite Way
Located in an open air garden with multiple counters serving a number of local beers on tap. They often have DJs or live music, and offer a limited menu of pub grub such as poutines and wraps. If you need help with your beer selection, feel free to ask the helpful staff for their advice!
7. Pony Corral Pier 7
1700 Pembina Hwy
Pony Corral’s Pier 7 location has undoubtably one of the best patios in Winnipeg. With live music, an outdoor bar, and large covered, private huts for bigger tables, it’s a great atmosphere from which to take in relaxing river views.
With a great selection of affordable cocktails and martinis, you can spend all night enjoying the ambiance. Take advantage of their varied offering of Greek food by trying the Greek Salad, Chicken Souvlaki, or Beef Gyro.
8. The ROOST Rooftop
651-A Corydon Ave
Head up to the second floor of this Corydon Ave building to enjoy a selection of seasonal small plates and highly unique craft cocktails from their hand-drawn menu. Snag a spot on their coveted patio on a Friday night to people-watch and sample great drinks. Try the Roost Burger, the Buffalo Tofu Steam Bun, and the Wedge Salad for your shared plates, and the Reckless Daughter and Ruby News in way of cocktails.
9. Silver Heights Restaurant & Lounge
2169 Portage Avenue
The Silver Heights Restaurant & Lounge is one of Winnipeg’s longest running family restaurants. They serve fresh, quality food at a reasonable price, and in summer their service extends onto their sunny, casual patio.
